Before You Start

What is LumaTutor?
LumaTutor is parent-managed online reading and writing practice for students. Students work through passages, comprehension questions, evidence practice, writing steps, and tutor feedback in a guided workspace.
Who is LumaTutor for?
It is built for families who want steady ELA practice at home, including homeschool families, Korean-speaking families navigating U.S. school English, and students who need more reading and writing repetition between classes or tutoring sessions.
Can a student create an account alone?
No. A parent or legal guardian creates the family account and student profiles. Students sign in with a code and PIN managed by the parent account.

Practice Experience

What does a practice session include?
A session may include reading a passage, answering comprehension and evidence questions, planning or writing a response, revising, and reviewing tutor feedback. The goal is guided practice, not answer shortcuts.
If my child is in Grade 4 outside the U.S., should we start with Grade 4?
Not always. LumaTutor Grade levels follow U.S. ELA reading and writing expectations. Students outside an English-school environment may need to start 1-2 levels lower, then adjust after a level check or a few practice sessions.
Does LumaTutor replace school or a private tutor?
No. LumaTutor supports regular practice and feedback at home. It does not replace school instruction, professional teaching, parent judgment, or formal assessment.
Does LumaTutor guarantee better grades or test scores?
No. Scores and feedback are learning signals for practice and review. They do not guarantee school grades, standardized test scores, admissions outcomes, or any specific result.

Parents, AI, and Safety

How do parents see progress?
Parents can manage student profiles, review session history, see reports, and keep billing and access under the parent account. The product is designed so children do not need independent public signup.
How is AI used?
AI supports tutoring feedback, hints, scoring support, vocabulary explanations, and writing revision guidance. AI can be imperfect, so LumaTutor treats it as educational support rather than a final authority.
How does LumaTutor handle student privacy?
Student accounts are parent-managed. LumaTutor does not sell personal information, and child-specific practices are described in the Children's Privacy Notice and Privacy Policy linked from this site.
